Sambal Squid Recipe

Sambal Squid Recipe
Living in Singapore has exposed me with spicy food and somehow I crave for it sometimes. Anyway, I usually frequent to this food stall in Northpoint called Pattaya Rice. I just recently tried the Sambal Squid combo and I really liked it. Because I liked it a lot, I copied their dish, Makoy style. I haven't asked their ingredients though and I relied on taste.

Here are the ingredients for the Sambal Squid. Sambal by the way is chili in Malay.

1. Squid cut into rings
2. French beans or string beans
3. Cooking oil
4. Chili sauce

Now for the simple steps:

1. Sautee the string beans (I prefer french beans, my favorite) in a pan with cooking oil until it is half cooked. Put it aside in a bowl.
2. On a separate pan, sautee the squid then add the awesome chili sauce.
3. Mix in the half cooked french beans and wait until both squid and french beans are cooked.

Singapore's Circle Line Fully Opens Oct 8

Good news to commuters that are frequent travelers to the central part of Singapore. The circle line is fully opening this October with 12 new stations. From Marymount, it will now pass busy parts of Singapore like Botanic Gardens, Holland Village and Harbourfront.

With the opening of Circle Line, maybe I can finally go to Botanic Gardens and Holland Village. Lol.

Anyway, according to estimates upon the completion of the Circle Line, half a million people will use the Circle Line everyday. It will also help ease over crowding in Raffles Place and City Hall MRT interchanges.

What's so nice about the Circle Line is that it saves travel time. A normal 40 minutes travel from Bishan to Buona Vista will be trimmed to just 26 minutes.

SpongeBob Dangerous To Kids?

I got to read this news this morning and I was curious to how the affectionate and kid-friendly SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon can be dangerous to children.

According to the news, there was a study conducted that watching only 9 minutes of SpongeBob can cause short-term attention and learning problems among 4-year-old children.

The study was composed of 60 kids which were randomly chosen to watch SpongeBob or the slow-paced cartoon Caillou or just draw pictures. After 9 minutes of watching, they were given mental function tests. Those children that watched SpongeBob scored poorly.

Nickelodeon spokesman David Bittler disputed the study and told that SpongeBob target audience are aged 6-11 and not 4-year olds. He also added, "Having 60 non-diverse kids, who are not part of the show's targeted (audience), watch nine minutes of programming is questionable methodology and could not possibly provide the basis for any valid findings that parents could trust."

World's Biggest Crocodile Caught in the Philippines

World's Biggest Crocodile Caught in the Philippines
In Bunawan town, Agusan del Sur, Philippines, a one ton salt water crocodile has been caught by a veteran hunter as reported last Monday. The 21-foot (6.4-meter) male crocodile was finally caught after three weeks of hunting. The crocodile was caught last Saturday by a trap made by steel cables.

From the account of Mayor Edwin Cox Elorde, the crocodile has killed a water buffalo which was witnessed by villagers. There are also rumors that the giant crocodile ate the village fisherman which gone missing since July.

Elorde now plans to make the giant crocodile as the main attraction to their planned ecotourism park. Villagers have been quoted that they're happy that dangerous crocodile turned from a threat to an asset.

After this successful capture, local hunters are now hunting for the other crocodiles, which are very abundant in the vast marshland of Agusan.

PH Universities Alarming Rank Drop

PH Universities Alarming Rank Drop
The latest QS World University Rankings has been released. Cambridge University, Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) were the top three schools that topped the listing.

What's alarming is that none of the Universities in the Philippines made it to the 300 list. Prominent universities like University of the Philippines only ranked 332 from 2010's 314th rank. Ateneo de Manila University followed with 360 from 307th. Third place is De La Salle University, which is in the 551-600 bracket from the 451-500 bracket in 2010. University of Santo Tomas was the last which belongs to the 601+ bracket.

It's just sad that in 2009 ranking at least two universities made it to the list including Ateneo de Manila University at 234 and University of the Philippines at 262.
