Jet Li Becomes Singapore Citizen

Jet Li Becomes Singaporean Citizen
After the famous Chinese born Hollywood star Gong Li became a Singaporean, it's Jet Li's time now. Kung Fu Superstar Jet Li confirmed on Tuesday that he has become a Singapore Citizen because he wants his children to receive bilingual education in the Lion City.

Jet Li also added in the interview that the absence of paparazzi in Singapore was also one of the strong reasons from his decision. He said in Mandarin, "My children can have good bilingual education with social stability, and my children will not be harassed by journalists and reporters."

He also told in the interview that he find it funny that people got interested from him being a Singaporean but when he got his US passport 20 years ago, people aren't talking about it.

Jet Li's film credits include Hollywood blockbusters "The Expendables" and "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor."

President Obama Before and After Photos

US President Obama's picture has been circulating the internet with the speculation that he dyed his hair.

President Obama Before and After

What do you think of his new hair? I know he's the president and it's just absurd that people are paying attention to his greying hair.

2013 update, President Obama won his second term. And since this post about before and after photos, I am posting his official Presidential photos way back his first term and his current term.

Free Investment Seminar

Free Investment Seminar
After work today, I went straight to Suntec City to my first ever Investment Seminar. I was with my two Singaporean friends and I met them at Raffles City Mall. The seminar was scheduled to start at 7 P.M. and my work was way far from the venue.

We arrived the Rock Auditorium of Suntec City I think five or ten minutes before 7 P.M. and I was so starving. At the entrance of the auditorium, we had to register ourselves and received a goodie bag in return. Wohoo! Inside the auditorium were tables full of food and drinks. I immediately went for it and minutes later we were informed that the seminar was about to start. While I was having my drinks, the emcee was already introducing the first speaker.

Anyway, there were a total of five speakers and they talked about the Emerging Markets, Singapore, Currencies, Asia Market and the Lessons from the Past. I'm a newbie when it comes to these topics and they were quite okay in sharing what they know. It's just awful that one speaker in general was really boring. He spoke to this monotone voice as if he's not interested in life. After the five speakers finished, the audience were able to answer some questions. By 9 P.M., we were dismissed.

Just to share some good points from this seminar. It is best to invest in Emerging Markets like China and India. Equities will be big this year and best to stay away with Bonds. Gold is also not a good thing in 2011. More tips in the coming days if I remember them. lol.

Singapore Bus Stop Distance Refund
People of Singapore, good news and bad news. I just learned this evening that there were bus services that has been wrongly calibrated. Some bus stop distances were undercharged and some were overcharged. Travels affected were between July 3, 2010 and November 25, 2010.

Refunds can be made from December 18, 2010 to June 17, 2011 through the following venues:

1. Any purple-colored TransitLink Add Value Machine

Starbucks Unveiled New Logo

Starbucks Unveiled New Logo
Coffee giant Starbucks has unveiled their new logo last January 5th to their employees. The said change in logo is their 4th after 40 years. The new logo is the just a few nips and tucks of their loved sea nymph.

According to Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, they don't want to to make a drastic change in their logo. He also added, "What is really important here is an evolutionary refinement of the logo, which is a mirror image of the strategy."

Here is the history of Starbucks logo change:

1971 - Started selling coffee in Sattle's Pike Place Market. Logo is in brown color with the elaborate sea nymph design.

1987 - Added handcrafted espresso beverages to the menu. Changed the color to green but still retaining the same deisgn of the brown sea nymph.

1992 - Become a publicly traded company. Sea nymph is bigger in size.

2011 - Marked the 40th anniversay of the company. Starbucks Coffee label was removed then the sea nymph was changed to all green.

The new logo will be used starting March 2011 to coincide with Starbucks' 40th anniversary.

First Bangkok Trip - Day 2

First Bangkok Trip - Day 2
Yey, finally Day 2 of my Bangkok trip. Our day started early that day. Even my friend was sick the night before that, I pushed her to wake up around 8 A.M. By 8:55 A.M, were on the streets looking for our breakfast. I was so afraid to try some street foods that we only had the freshly made sandwiches. We also bought rice cakes, which looked like the local Pinoy rice cakes.

After buying some Paracetamol for my friend, we hailed taxis to go to the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. We're just shocked that the taxi drivers were asking for a fixed price. After hailing tons of taxis, an American tourist approached us and asked where are we planning to go. According to him Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is so far from Bangkok that's why taxi drivers were asking for a fixed price. He shared to us that he just went to the floating market in the Chao Praya River. He asked us if we want to go there instead and instructed the Tuk Tuk driver.

We went there instead and paid 900 baht each for the two of us. Just a reminder that you need to wear slippers since it is flooded in that area. The boat ride went to the canals where some floating markets reside. We bought some fruits, bread to feed the fish and some drinks. Minutes later, we went to the station where we fed the fish. That experience was awesome! The school of fish were scary big but they were so delighted with the bread that we tried to break into pieces. Anyway, the boat ride ended at Wat Pho.

Watch out for Day 2 Part 2 in Safari World. "Safari World, Safari World!"

Bangkok Tuk Tuk Ride Experience

Bangkok Tuk Tuk Ride Experience
It's 2011 and I'm not yet done with my Bangkok trip stories. For tonight, I'm sharing about my Tuk Tuk Ride experience.

On Day 1 of our Bangkok trip, we were able to ride the Tuk Tuk with the help of a Thai local. It is advisable to ask the help of a local to arrange your Tuk Tuk ride. Not only they can get the correct fare for you but there would be no hassle in communicating with the Tuk Tuk driver.

Anyway, riding a Tuk Tuk is not similar to flagging a taxi. The Tuk Tuk driver will offer you lots of places to go to and you can't say no. Anyway, it's worth a try and if you're in Bangkok you have to try it at least once. I still prefer riding the cab with the aircon on.

So what is you Tuk Tuk ride experience? Let me know.

Inbetweeners DVD Boxset

Inbetweeners DVD Boxset
Hello 2011 and one way to start the new year is to watch a new TV series. It has been a long time since I watched a British comedy. And I have to admit that British people have a different comedic style. Anyway, my favorite of course was Little Britain and they are very hilarious! Moving along, I am introducing you to “Inbetweeners.” It is a British comedy that started airing in 2008 on E4 channel. It has a total of 3 seasons with six episodes each.

The story of Inbetweeners revolves around the life of Will McKenzie (the protagonist and the show’s narrator, which was played by Simon Bird) together with his three friends Simon Cooper, Jay Cartwright and Neil Sutherland at the fictional Rudge Park Comprehensive.

This show was a smash hit with a record breaking audience of 2.6 million viewers (12.5% audience share) on its channel. One proof of its success was the film version of the TV series with all the characters reprising their roles. According to reports, the plot of the film version will be about the four boys on a holiday in Crete. The film version of Inbetweeners will be released sometime this year.

If you can’t wait to watch the film version, you better get the Inbetweeners DVD boxset which contains Season 1 to 3. Happy watching!

Christmas 2010 and My First Tarot Reading

Christmas 2010 and My First Tarot Reading
This is my third Christmas in Singapore and this time I spent it with my Singaporean friends. Thank you again to Alvin and Willie for the invitation. Anyway, the potluck party was in Hougang and I was the only Filipino there. Thankfully, they were nice that most of the time they spoke in English. Anyway, they were a lot of food including the log cake that my friends and I contributed.

By 8 P.M., we started our dinner where I only had a slice of pizza and a piece of corn pie. After that, I asked my dear friend Alvin if he brought his tarot cards. He promised me days ago that he would read my tarot reading for free. Anyway, he brought his tarot cards and started to explain to me the mechanics. The first question that I have asked was about my work for 2011. I have decided actually to look for a new work by the 2nd quarter of 2011 but after my tarot reading it swayed my decision.

My tarot reading was like this. There were two options for the cards: 1) stay with my current job and 2) finding a new job. On the first option, it said that a new woman in the office will enter the picture. She will work face-to-face with me and there is a possibility of a promotion. I’ll be happy if I’ll stay. On the second option, it said that I need to know what I want. Once I discover it, I can do well. Anyway, I also asked questions about the permanent residency application and love (lol). That I wouldn’t share the details. Haha.

After my tarot reading, my new friends followed and I was there to listen. One asked about his business, the other one about investments and lastly about love.

This is actually my first tarot reading and I find it quite amusing. Thanks again to Alvin for the tarot reading. If you guys are in Singapore, you may want to try this tarot reading from my friend. You may call him at +6598399742 or email at jsangye@yahoo.com.sg. He will also be at the Fashion Bazaar in Bishan on January 29 from 12 PM to 6 PM.

Anyway by 11 P.M., we started exchanging gifts with a twist. Each of us had to promote our gifts without telling what it is. Those who received the highest votes can pick first the gift that he wants and so on. I received a body shop body scrub pack which smells so yummy!

Singapore Fireworks 2011 Video

Here is the glimpse of the 8-minute fireworks near Esplanade. It's just a bummer that people waited for a long time just for the 8-minute show. And it's not that great actually.
