Nike City 10K SG vs KL Experience

Nike City 10K SG vs KL Experience makoy
MTV VJ Utt, lol
Last October 24 me and the rest of 16,000 Singapore peeps run 10 kilometers from Raffles Avenue to The Float @ Marina Bay. I arrived the venue 10 minutes before the start of the race. It's just nice to see a lot of runners wearing the same running shirt. At the baggage counter, I left my bag and they were very organized. They gave a baggage number that I placed on my shoes.

Anyway the venue is at The Float @ Marina Bay. The field held some stations that I hoped was a goodie bag section. After visiting the portalet, we went straight to the starting point. Raffles Avenue was flooded with neon green shirts. Amazing! While waiting for the signal, I can hear the voice of MTV VJ Utt and the other annoying girl host who I don't know.

The first wave started at exactly 7:45 and I was so pumped up to run. During the leg of the race, I was able to pass the following roads: Nicoll Highway, Republic Boulevard, Sims Way, Geylang Road, Kallang Road, Crawford Street and Marina Promenade. There were 4 music stations including R&B and Pop where bands performed live.

I made the finish line with an approximate time of 01:24:00. At the finish line, the neon green peeps were on queue for the complimentary bottled water, 100 Plus drink and the finisher souvenir. After getting those goodies, I went to get my bag and took some photos at the Nike City 10K backdrop.

It was a great run thanks to the cooperation of the weather. Hoping to join again next year!

I am the Big Picture - Aviva

I saw a Google ad of Aviva from my blog and I got interested to check it out. Anyway the ad says that you can donate a photo of yours and you will have a chance of appearing on the buildings of Paris, London or Warsaw. Awesome! And for every photo donated, they will give out 1 euro to charities.

Anyway, here is their awesome commercial featuring me :)

My 29th Birthday

Wannabe on top?
Last Friday was my 29th birthday and I'm glad that I was able to take my birthday leave. Thursday was actually a stressful day and I was upset that I was in the office working until 7:30 PM. What's more upsetting was that my supervisor did not approve my leave. I have this ongoing System Integration Testing and that was the reason my supervisor gave. I was so desperate to have my day that I asked permission to my System Integration Testing supervisor. Gladly, he approved my leave.

Back to my birthday, I woke up early that day. I finally sold the bar fridge that I have won in my company's Dinner & Dance. My buyer responded from my Pinoy SG advertisement and I received S$100. After selling the fridge, I had my breakfast and planned what to do the whole day.

Since I have $100 in my hand, I planned to shop some clothes. I had decided to go to Bugis, met my friend for lunch at Swensen's then went to St. Joseph's Church. After my church visit, I went back to Bugis to look for clothes. Sadly, I wasn't able to buy anything. I got interested though to buy the pull up gadget that you attach in the door. Anyway after consuming my favorite bubble tea, I went to City Hall to try my luck in finding nice shirts.

Anyway, a strange thing happened to me when I was walking to City Link Mall. I was approached by a teenage guy and at first I thought he was selling something or he was from a charity organization. I just waved my hand and told that I'm not interested. He was so persistent that I finally listened to him. He gave me a calling card and asked for my name and my number. When I read the content of the calling card, it actually says talent/modelling agency. I was so surprised that I gave my real name and number. LOL.

Back to my shopping, I finally bought 4 tops at Marina Square for S$80. After that, my friend and I went straight to Queensway and bought a new Nike running shorts for S$29. Since Queensway is just walking distance to Ikea, we went there and had our dinner. The chicken wings was so awesome! Sadly, their pasta was below par.

Thank you again to all my friends who remembered my birthday. I was even surprised to received greetings from my fellow bloggers that I don't know personally. Thank you again guys!

Hazy Singapore

view from my office desk, early morning
Last week was a surprise in terms of environment here in Singapore. The ever green Singapore was surrounded with haze and it doesn't look good at all. When it happened I thought it was raining outside but it was just a haze. It smelled awful as well.

According to the news, the haze came from Sumatra, Indonesia where blazing forest fires took place. We can never blame Indonesia if the forest fire was actually brought by nature. Thankfully today the skies in Singapore are a bit clear. Thanks to the rain that helped clear the haze. I am glad that Singapore can expect 2 days of rain starting tomorrow. That would somehow clean all the remaining residue. Just a precaution to us here in Singapore to bring an umbrella. Remember it is not just rain.

Anyway, I was in the Nike City 10K run this morning and the weather was nice and the sky was clear. Thank God! My 10K run story coming up tomorrow or Tuesday!

Inception Movie Review

Inception Movie Review
This review was a bit late but since the Inception DVD is out, I better do it.  The movie Inception is basically about ideas and literally stealing them.  Leonardo DiCarpio which is the lead of the star is a master of entering dreams.  Together with his Inception team he was tasked to enter the dream of the deceased CEO's son and swayed his mind to sell the company. In doing so, they encountered counter attacks during Inception of the CEO's son. Leo's deceased wife was also one of the obstacles of their mission.

The movie in general for me is brilliant but the main concept of the movie is somehow similar to the Matrix. Anyway, I was impressed with the special effects specially the part when they build a city in minutes. The actors performed well specially Leonardo and Marion.

One of my favorite movies of 2010!

Inception is written, produced and directed by Christopher Nolan and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Dileep Rao, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger, and Michael Caine.

My First Indian Food

My First Indian Food
After my collection of the Nike Race pack and a short visit to the Nike Outlet in Clementi, I finally had conquered my fear of the Indian food. I have been ignoring the Indian food stalls for more than two years now for the fear of eating Indian curry and my other personal reasons.

Anyway, my friend and I had our dinner at Ah Mei Cafe, Northpoint Centre. For my first ever Indian food, I tried their Fried Chicken with Briyani Rice. That for me is the safest choice and since the curry sauce is on a separate mini plate then that is one more plus point. Aside from the chicken, we also ordered the Egg prata.

For the tasting part, I first tried the chicken without the curry sauce and the Briyani rice. On my first bite, I immediately smelled the usual Indian spices. The chicken tastes okay for me just like a normal fried chicken. When I tried dipping it with the curry sauce I was a bit shocked that it actually tastes nice. I just dipped in moderation cause I don't want to smell like curry.

egg prata
The egg prata also comes with the curry dip. This is also my first try with the prata. The taste of it is actually similar to a pancake. The only difference is its texture and the way it was made. I should try the different flavors next time.

For those who are scared like me to try the Indian food, I guarantee you that you will like it. And we have to be adventurous once in a while in trying exotic and unfamiliar food.

Have fun eating!

Nike City 10K SG vs KL Race Pack

Nike City 10K SG s KL Race Pack
This morning I woke up 7 in the morning then headed to Yishun Park. It was an awful run. I was in the 1.8 kilometers mark when I started to feel the pain on my left knee. I was literally walking then running alternately. When I reached 3 kilometers on my Nike Sportband, I went home to have my breakfast, shower and rest. After all of that, I went the gym and for a second time that day I went to run at the treadmill. I had a total of 6 kilometers of run that day and the run at the treadmill was quite fine. Thanks to the pain killer that I took before the gym.

After the gym, I went home to take a shower then headed to 313@Somerset. I met my friend there to pick up the Nike Race pack. Before that we had our lunch at the Basement 1 of 313@Somerset. Now back to the collection of race pack, we went to Orchard Central. There were no queue and at the counter they just asked for my identification card.

Inside the race pack are the following:  Official Nike City 10K shirt, Race Day Guide, ID, 100 Plus, $10 Sephora voucher, timer and the Nike bag.  I'm just disappointed that the only freebie inside is the 100 Plus drink.  What the!  I hope after the race there would be more to expect.  See you all the run on October 24th.

Resorts World Sentosa Dinner and Dance 2010

Me and my hostage Sheila
Me and my hostage Sheila
Last Friday was our company's Dinner and Dance. This year's theme was the Mafia and the Rebels meaning we can dress up like Godfather or be a punk. I had thought of dressing up like a toned Mafia but my fitting didn't go well. I was in the mall for two days and the night before the party I got so frustrated. I was in Topman and tried the gray slacks and vest. I looked short and something looked wrong with the getup. I was thinking that the pants was too fitted for me. They don't have any other types available though. Because of that, I opted to wear my jeans, blue shirt and a borrowed vest. I think it worked.

The venue for this year was at the Resorts World Sentosa Convention Centre. My friends and I met at Vivo City and we opted to ride the free shuttle bus to the venue. I was laughing hard when I saw my Filipina friends at Vivo City. They were wearing skimpy black dresses and the other one looked like Madonna with the hat. Harhar. My other friend who said she did not bought anything was all dressed up with a matching glittery hat and trench coat.

The registration according to the invitation starts at 6 PM and the party starts after an hour. We arrived just on time and I was excited to eat. There were three raffle draws for the night and as always I did not hope to win. After the registration and dropping off the raffle coupons, we went to get a drink and went inside. My other friends did not went inside and got so hooked up with the air brush tattoo booth.

Inside the convention centre were four large screens and in the middle was the stage. Minutes after the program started with a dance number. The host entered the picture and we were commanded to stand. He introduced the groupings of the convention centre and the game started. One of the contenders belonged to our table. Sadly, he lost. After the game, they introduced the first 20 winners of the raffle. My friend on the same table won a white Adidas watch. After the raffle, the appetizer was served.

Moving along, on the third raffle I was surprised to see my name as the 27th raffle winner.  I was so surprised to receive a personal refrigerator.  I had to carry it to our table all by myself and it was heavy.  Anyway, the mafia games continued and the other food was served.  After the grand prize was awarded, we had decided to leave.  We even had the chance of sipping some wine given by the other tables.

Nin Jiom Cold Remedy

Nin Jiom Cold Remedy
When I returned to work after the death of my father, I suddenly fell ill for the whole week. I had this running nose and my eyes felt very hot. I did not have fever though so I was able to go to work. Thank God, my colleagues did not give me much work at that time.

By the third day I was ill, I was drinking lots of water even hot tea at the office. I was also taking Vitamin C 1000 mg twice a day. Those regimen didn't work. My Singaporean friend who knew about my ordeal salvaged my colds. He gave me this Chinese herbal medicine, which in less than 6 hours made me feel much better. The chinese herbal medicine is called Nin Jiom Cold Remedy and you can buy it in Guardian. It is in powder form in which you need to mix with hot water. Drink it before a meal and I guarantee that it will soothe your cold symptoms.

The next day, I was already feeling better. What's my gauge? Well, I can make fun of my friends and I was back to my grouchy state. I just have to warn you that this chinese herbal medicine doesn't taste so well. It has a strong ginger taste that bothers me a lot. Well, it does work so you just have to endure the taste.

According to the label, it also works with the following:
- Discomfort caused by common colds and flu (when used during the initial stage of your cold
- from the second and third day)
- Headaches
- Chills
- Blocked nose
- Fever (with no perspiration)
- Muscular aches and pains
- Stiff back and shoulders
