No Respect Over Manila Hostage Crisis
It was a tragic Monday for the Philippines and Hong Kong after the hostage crisis that had happened. Ex-policeman Rolando Mendoza armed with an M-16 assault rifle held 25 people hostage in Manila. After a 12-hour standoff, Mendoza was shot dead and eight Hong Kong nationals were killed while seven suffered injuries.

It had showed how weak our government and our police force are. And the whole world were watching blow-by-blow of the account. It has tarnished our image and I don't know how are we going to turn this incident into a good thing.

Anyway, this morning I was informed by my Filipino officemates that we're on the front page again. Apparently, there are photos of our police force smiling at the back of the crime scene. These people are so insensitive. Not just insensitive but also mal educado. It just makes me mad. They are even smiling for God sake. Please show some respect!

No Respect Over Manila Hostage Crisis 2

May this incident be a lesson to our government.

This is sad. What we lack is respect. How would these people feel if circumstances were overturned and they ended up the HK victims? We have to respect the feelings of other people.
Are these cops even proud of what happened to the point of taking a souvenir shot?

let me begin by saying that for the record, i do not condone the cops' stupidity in these pics. they acted very, very, very irresponsibly. but with all due respect, i think these pics can now be taken down from your blog.

the point has been made: their stupidity has been exposed and made known to government, they are to be reprimanded by officials, the news has made headlines all over asia (and probably the world), in fact- it is no longer news.

i respect your right to post anything and everything in your nook in cyberspace. however, the folly of Pinoys need not be "immortalized" in your very famous and accessible blog. blogging about this incident, keeping the pics posted here, sir, in my humble opinion, does not contribute anything positive to the terrible situation already on hand; rather, based on the comments from your readers, it only stokes the embers of hate.

again, IMHO, we become accomplices to perpetuation of hurt experienced by the victims and survivors of the hostage-taking through non-productive negative discussions.

we can blog to express our emotions, disgust, disagreement, pleasure, opinions, wishes, ideas about anything and everything in the world. but i'm sure you'd agree with me that we should also be purposeful in our blogging, to be responsible bloggers, especially yourself, given the wide reach of your blogs. blogging IMHO should be an avenue for proposing positive action even from something vile as the hostage-taking.

after posting these pics and this article- what positive contribution have we made? have we made the situation any better?

on another matter, i maybe mistaken but i see no citation where these pics were taken and by whom. i assume these weren't your own since you're in Singapore?
