Since I have moved here in Singapore, I have been going to the Catholic service. I am by the way a Born Again Christian since 4th Grade. Yesterday, marked my first Ash Wednesday, literally. I don't know what to do so I asked some of my friends. According to them, during the mass the priest will place an ash on the forehead in a cross sign. Then my friend also told me that I should do a confession. That I have no idea.
Anyway, I left work at exactly 6 P.M. and was in St. Mary of the Angels five minutes before the 6:30 P.M. mass. I was happy by the way that I was back in St. Mary again after many months. There were two priests for the mass and the church was fully packed.
At the time of the placing of ashes, I just followed the flow. I did not know by the way if I need to say Amen after the ashes or just leave. I did not hear anything from the people in my front. I was surprised that the ashes was cold. I did not expect that.
After the mass, I went to the West Mall to have my dinner. I immediately went to the wash room to clean my forehead since people are staring. I just don't get it. Indians have red dots and we can't have ashes on our foreheads.
Anyway, I just have to observe the lent season and avoid eating meat on Fridays.
