Billy Elliot the Musical TitleFor the first edition of my Broadway segment, I am featuring “Billy Elliot the Musical”, a 2000 British film that is now an adapted musical in the West End Theatre in London. Aside from London it is also showing in Broadway, New York and Australia.

Lee Hall did the lyrics, the same person responsible for the screenplay of the film version. Sir Elton John on the other hand was responsible for the music. It has won numerous Olivier and Tony Awards including the Best New Musical, Best Musical and Best Original Score.

Billy Elliot the Musical photoJust like the film version, the Musical revolves around the life of Billy Elliot, an eleven year old boy that aspires to be a ballet dancer. His father enrolled him in boxing but he realized he doesn’t like the brutal sport. He then skipped boxing then secretly went to ballet classes. His father at the end realized Billy’s passion with ballet and personally took Billy on a ballet audition. 14 years later, Billy was the lead in Matthew Bourne's “Swan Lake.” You can really achieve your dream if you have passion.
