Recession Paranoia

Recession ParanoiaYesterday night after I had my dinner, I was surprised to read a text message from my employment agent. The gist of the message says that there would be a contract staff review meeting on October 21 and she is asking me if I can come. The first thing that came to my mind is that they will be discussing the recession issue to us. That frightened me a lot.

I confirmed my attendance to her and asked her what the meeting is all about. I told her that I am scared of her text message as well. She replied that I don’t have to worry since it is only a review meeting and a gathering of contract staffs under them. I was so relieved to hear that from her. I’m really scared of losing my job especially with the current financial crisis around the world.

She even reminded me that my current employer has good comments on me and if I strive hard there is a high possibility that my contract will be extended. I hope this recession will not have a high effect in Singapore and Manila.

Are you as paranoid as I am with this recession issue?

I hope that the recession doesn't put you out of your current work.

I work for a non-profit that is seeing a huge drop in their endowment, which is mostly invested in the stock market. Everyone is a bit nervous here as well.

But, I'm also actively looking for new opportunities all the time and see some inside the turmoil of a recession too. After all, billionaire Warren Buffet just announced that he is actively buying up stocks in companies whose share prices are very low due to market fear. He may be a trillionaire when it's all over.

I just wrote an article on my blog today about what products sell well during a recession.

even though its recession, I can see some things are cheaper now. Like things we need to buy for cooking, etc. But some seller charge expensive.
